How Things Work Underwater is a painterly dive into an imaginary watery world. They are partly influenced by the beautiful yet eerie underwater footage from Werner Herzog’s documentary film “Encounters at the End of the World.” They are also an attempt to create paintings using theatrical scenic paints (an acrylic vinyl medium - painting from gallon pails instead of oil paints and a palette). The resulting images are my “made up” world of life beneath the waves. And although I allowed my whimsy free reign, can anything ever really compare to the bizarre beauty of a seahorse?
